The Pony Express

I've had the good fortune to help out with the Pony Express Re-ride and the XP Christmas Card Ride.  For the radio operator, it's just a simple matter of calling Net Control with the arrival and departure times of the riders.  I have been stationed at various locations along the Ride that are near to where I live; Rossmoor Bar and the Sunrise river access along the American River Parkway. Also, a few Relay locations at Folsom and Rescue, CA.  These locations follow the same route as the original Pony Express on their way to St. Joseph, Missouri (the Eastern terminus).
The NPEA celebrates the Holiday season with the Pony Express Christmas Card Ride from Folsom (at the Folsom Museum) to Old Sacramento.  Riders carry Christmas greeting cards on horseback, in a mochila, and relay the mail by horse and rider along the American River Bike Trail (and parts of the original Jedediah Smith Trail). Each envelope will receive a special ink stamp showing they were carried by the Pony Express!
